Quick Questions

In Queensland a Roadworthy certificate is called a safety certificate.

A safety certificate is needed when:

A registered light vehicle is offered for sale in Queensland, or

Transferring registration to a new owner, or

When transferring to Queensland registration from another state or territory,

When re-registering an unregistered vehicle.

This inspection covers the basics for the safe operation of the vehicle, such as:

  • Tyres
  • Brakes
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Body Damage
  • Windscreen
  • Lights

Step 1 / 8

Tyres are often the most neglected things on our cars, but we should take better care of them, our lives depend on them.

The minimum legal tread depth is 1.5 mm across the width of the tread. When the tyre is worn to the legal limit the bars will be flush with the surface of the tread. The tread is designed to disperse water from the contact patch, thereby helping the tyre grip the road. Without tread the tyre's ability to grip a wet road is severely limited, making it almost impossible to stop, turn, accelerate and corner.

Step 2 / 8

Check for wear by looking at your s through the spaces between the wheel's spokes. The outside will be pressed against a metal rotor. Generally ,there should be at least 1/4 inch of. If you see less than 1/4 inch of pad, you may want to have your brake s inspected or replaced.

There are many other elements in braking system which can effect the result.

Step 3 / 8

Includes very tight steering wheel, leaking power steering fluid, grinding noise when steering

Step 4 / 8

Rides begins to feel rough drifting or pulling during turns dips or "nose dips"when stopping damaged "oily " shocks try bounce tests

Step 5 / 8

That part of the windscreen swept by the wiper blades (primary vision area) is cracked, scored, chipped, badly sandblasted or otherwise damaged so as to impair the driver’s vision or damage the wiper blades.

The area of windscreen swept by the wipers to the right of the centre of the vehicle has bull’s-eyes or star fractures more than 16mm in diameter or cracks more than 150mm long which either penetrate more than one (1) layer of the glass in a laminated windscreen or interfere with the driver’s vision.
